Overview (Story)
“I can take you to greater heights that no other mages had ever reached.”

Fern’s staff was broken after the second part of the First-Class Mage Exam. Before taking the third test, Frieren finds a shop where she could able to have Fern’s broken staff be fixed.

The third part of the exam’s proctor is really surprising, as almost none of the mages had passed before her. And the name of that proctor is… The Great Mage Serie?

Review
Review time! Finally, this is where Fern stole Frieren’s spotlight!

My expectation for this Episode has really changed. Not only because of Frieren being giving up on being a powerful mage, but Fern is finally gaining some popularity here, allowing me to root more for her from now on. I don’t really like her to team up with Stark, because you know, I think she’s allergic to guys, somehow.

Other characters had appeared, in order to see their spotlight for one last time. But it seems that others, like Wirbel, don’t really have their lines prepared in the mid-part of this Episode. Oh, and that cutish moment between Lawine and Kanne there!

Serie the Great Mage is really wise and philosophical. She really knows about the nature of magic, and such, and not even Frieren’s mentor had surpassed her. Also, what did Serie has said that “a Demon King, and some human, can defeat a powerful elf mage”. It seems that it is really a contextual spoiler, after all, and that’s why Fern has stole the spotlight from Frieren.

The ending is just philosophical, wondering why Fern has passed Serie’s mana-concealment test — and why Serie chose Fern to be her student.

Overall, this Episode is really-really good, yet it’s lacking some insights, for me. I can’t really wait what’s gonna happen next time, when I found out already it is the final Episode.

My Rating: AVERAGE (3.7/5)

Review Rating Summary and Breakdown

Story: (5/5) – I like the pacing of the story, as if it is like happened in a flash. I really expected Serie to say “You failed” to almost all mage applicants.
Animation: (5/5) – Almost perfect, just like the transparency and the opacity of that mana concealment during the third test. Fern has really took upon the spotlight stage at this Episode!
Insights: (1/5) – As I had never learned anything about insights in this Episode, nothing, but a failing grade.
